Lion to Ship Wednesday →
Serenity Caldwell:
During Apple’s third-quarter financial earnings call Tuesday, chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer announced that Lion would debut Wednesday on the Mac App Store.
I’m all ready to do a clean install.
Apple Reports Third Quarter Results →
20.34 million iPhones, 9.25 million iPads and 3.95 million Macs. Record revenues and profits. And this is the slowest quarter of the year.

Why Windows 8 Is Fundamentally Flawed as a... →
Gruber:
But I think it’s a fundamentally flawed idea for Microsoft to build their next-generation OS and interface on top of the existing Windows. The idea is that you get the new stuff right alongside Windows as we know it. Microsoft is obviously trying to learn from Apple, but they clearly don’t understand why the iPad runs iOS, and not Mac OS X.
Gruber’s right. There’s a lot...

Lion, iOS 5 and iCloud to be Discussed at WWDC... →
Official word from Apple on what they will be talking about at the WWDC keynote.
Odd that they’re announcing a future service, iCloud, before the keynote.
iWork for iPhone & iPod touch →
Apple has released universal versions of all the iWork apps. I can’t imagine working on a document from start to finish in one of these apps, but they’re quite nice for quick little edits.
Lukas Mathis on Windows Phone 7 →
He really likes it.
Mathis:
After looking at the clean, ascetic visual language of WP7 for such a long time, iOS suddenly seems garish, overdone, and kind of ugly. Looking at iOS 4 feels like looking at a screenshot of a pinstriped Mac OS X Cheetah from 2001.

John Gruber on the core difference between iOS and Android. This particular bit nails what I dislike about Android:
The real Android has a system-wide UI aesthetic with little personality, and no soul.
Sound Studio's Sales Post-Mac-App-Store →
It’s not talked about as much, but the Mac App Store is definitely helping people sell a lot more.
Apple's 2nd 2011 Fiscal Quarter Results →
18.65 million iPhones. That’s more iPhones than the holiday quarter. I guess the Verizon model is doing pretty well for them.
NetNewsNostalgia →
A little historical tour of one of my absolute favourite Mac apps, NetNewsWire.
Apple vs. Samsung Lawsuit Analysis →
This suit seems to have more credibility than Apple vs. HTC.
Firefox Aurora →
Aurora is a new development stage in Firefox. With it Mozilla aims to release new versions of Firefox more often.
It would sure be nice to see a faster release cycle for Safari. The last major update it had was last June.
What it’s like to share an article from one of... →
I’ve had a similar experience. I recently tried out Atomix Magazine, a gaming Mag made exclusively for the iPad. All articles are rendered as an image, so there is no selectable text. There is no multiple orientation support (just portrait), no search and articles take an extremely long time to download with no ability to do something else in the meantime (if you quit the app, the download...
“We Believe” →
Kyle Baxter:
Rather, they are trying to build an entirely new type of device where, for the first time in the history of computers, technology is secondary to what it does.

A nice read about Jonathan Ive, how he got to Apple and his history at the company.
